Chilling Poverty Out of Lake Turkana

Longech Beach sits on the edge of the world's largest permanent desert lake — yet for the fishing communities here, abundance and hunger have long existed side by side. Climate change, falling water levels, and the absence of a cold chain meant that most fish left these shores dried, salted, and stripped of more than 40% of their value. This photo series documents the work of Adili Solar Hub, a social enterprise that has built an end-to-end solar-powered cold chain in the heart of this fishing village — bringing ice, clean water, and market access to a community that had none. Shot for the LEIA Programme through Strathmore Research and Consultancy Centre, these images capture the fishers, the market women, and the quiet dignity of a community whose story is finally reaching the markets — and the world — fresh.
