Sun-Powered. Women-Owned

For rural women across Kenya, milling day is a day lost. Diesel-powered mills — loud, expensive, and almost always in the next town — have long demanded that women and girls spend up to a full day a week transporting harvests to be processed, time taken away from income, from family, and from school. This photo series documents a different reality, found in Kitui County, where a women's self-help group — a chama — pooled their resources to invest in an Agsol solar-powered Hammer Mill and brought it home to their community. Shot over an afternoon of conversation, laughter, and freshly milled flour, these images capture not just a machine, but a movement — women reclaiming their time, their productivity, and their economic independence through access to clean, affordable energy.
