The Grid That Came to Them
There are things that electricity makes possible that are difficult to quantify — the security of a light on at night, the dignity of cooking without smoke, the freedom of running a business from your own backyard. This photo series, shot in Kisii County in Western Kenya, documents three lives quietly transformed by Powerhive's community mini-grid — Kenya's first privately owned off-grid utility. An elderly woman living alone, who now has clean power for cooking and light through the night. A retired teacher whose backyard maize mill, powered by reliable electricity, has become a quiet anchor for his entire neighbourhood. And the solar plant itself — panels catching the equatorial sun, feeding clean energy into homes and businesses that, until recently, had none.
